History
In late 2008 the new learning advisor, Julianne Pask, met a group of local mothers who brought their children to the South library every Friday. Both parties were keen to start a book club and it began part-way through Term Four as a trial.
It began with mainly seven year old boys from Thorrington school but has now expanded to include almost as many girls and pupils from other schools. Another important addition is the group of junior aspiring members who at four and five are a little too young for the technology but not too young for colouring in and games.
Mothers and grandmothers ensure success because they sit in and help the members with the technology and support their reading choices. They also provide the valuable at home reading emphasis which turns readers into life long learners.
